Here is a story about how I poorly managed money.
Julie and I have been unpacking our stuff for about a month now. We have a second room that we're using as an office (it also has a bed for guests). The other day, I was putting my books on the bookshelf, and opened one of them to see where I got it. I thought maybe someone put a note in the front cover, because I knew I hadn't bought it myself.
A card fell out. I pulled the card out of the book and realized it was a graduation card. I didn't recognize the card, but it has been over 2 1/2 years since I graduated from college.
So, I opened it. There was a check in there from a family that used to go to our church. It was for $25. I felt kind of stupid for not realizing I had a check for 2 1/2 years.
Then I looked at the date on the check.
2002.
That was my high school graduation.
The bank that the check was written from closed around 2004 or so. And I know you're not supposed to cash/deposit checks after 6 months (it's either courtesy or it just doesn't work).
Oh well. There's $25 I don't have. Too bad, though. That family had some money back then (I don't know about now), while I am not very rich, and I never have been. I probably could have used the $25.
