I have a friend from Washington who calls it pop, so I say, "What? Pop?" And then he describes it, and I go, "Oh, no, that's called soda." And he gets way pissed off. Even though that's happened like fifty times. You probably don't want to try that on Julie. A), I'm sure she's smart enough to catch on by the second time, and B), provoking your girlfriend probably wouldn't be good. I've found it's fun provoking your little brother, though.
I still prefer calling it soda even though everyone else in South Africa calls it cold/cool drink.
